My dog is lethargic after neuter or hernia surgery. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | neutered | 4 years and 11 months old | 14.5 lbs

My 14 lb bichone just got neutered and a hernia repair he got out of surgery at 2, and it's now 7. He won't eat, drink, or walk, he'll only sleep. Is that normal? should I be worried?

Hi. Yes this can be normal after surgery. It would be abnormal though if he literally can't walk. I am assuming he just doesn't want to. Lol. I would monitor a bit longer tonight. Make sure he is nice and pink in his gums, and that the incisions look ok. Call your local ER if anything else seems off.
