Can I feed my new kitten high protein adult cat food like Crave?

I just got a kitten, and I'm starting to feed her Crave cat food. I know cats need for protein and stuff than adult cats, but this food is high in protein. It has 40% Protein, 18%Fat, 4% Fiber, 10% Moisture, and 3% Omega 3 Fatty Acids. Is it okay for my kitten?

Crave is formulated to meet AAFCO nutritional standards, which is great, but I don't see that this food is a kitten food. It looks like an adult cat food to me (but I could be wrong as I can't see the front of the bag!). Reign needs a kitten formulated food to meet the specific nutritional needs to support her growth,and that not only includes more protein, but also more calcium and higher calories. This is why kittens should only be given a kitten food until they are a year old. I would switch her to a kitten food, and when she is a year old, it will be fine to feed her this food. Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco. You may absolutely feed them Royal Canin kitten food as long as they are under 1 year of age. If they are not kittens then it’s not a good idea to feed them kitten food because this has more calories than they need and will cause them to become overweight and at high risk of developing diabetes and arthritis issues. You can try feeding them a similar adult food with the same protein in it as the kitten food. Check your local store and online store for more protein (beef, chicken, turkey, salmon, etc) options. Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! Kittens should be on kitten food primarily until they are 9 months to a year of age. There are differences in the nutritional content of these foods. The kitten formula has higher protein, calcium, vitamin D and E to help support health growth then the Savor does. I would recommend your kitten continues to eat the kitten formula until 9 months to a year old and then you can transition him back to the Savor or another adult formula. I hope this helps!

Is special kitty brand kitten food a good food? Also is the adult indoor formula a good food?
Kittens need food formulated for kittens and they should eat it until they are about 10 months of age. After that you can switch the adult formula. It all depends on what the AAFCO statement says. You will have to check if the food has met AAFCO standards for feeding kittens, adult cats, or all life stages. The crude protein, fiber, etc. is not very helpful in determining if the food meets the nutritional demand of the life stage. Below is a link to an article that explains this a bit further and will tell you where to find the AAFCO statement. https://www.petcoach.co/article/what-to-look-for-when-choosing-your-pet-s-food/ If the food is deemed nutritionally adequate, then it's OK to feed them each other's food, but keep in mind the recommended amount to feed (should also be somewhere on the bag). The biggest concern with feeding an "all life stage" food is that it gives them too much calories, which can lead to obesity. If you notice that your cats starting to get chunky, then it's important to start reducing the amount of food they get. I hope that helps and all is well with the kitties.

This particular diet is formulated to meet the demands of all life stages, so technically this should be fine for kittens and will be OK to feed them this. However, there can be some problems associated with feeding adult cats this food, because it may contain more calories and make them more prone to obesity. Because Bleu is an adult cat, she does not need a kitten food. Kitten food should only be fed to cats less than a year of age. This is because kitten food has more calories, protein, and calcium to support their rapid growth, but as adults, they won't grow anymore and thus do not need as many calories as a kitten. I would get her an adult cat food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

What should I look for in choosing a food for my new kitten?
Kittens do the majority of their growth in the first five to six months of life but continue to grow until they are around one year old. During this time of rapid growth and maturation of their bones, it is very important to choose a complete and balanced diet with the appropriate levels of nutrients. Diets formulated for growth include those labeled for kittens or “all life stages.” Canned foods promote increased water consumption in cats, and feeding dry food exclusively or in combination with canned is also acceptable. Offering a kitten with a variety of textures early in life can be helpful in minimizing the chance of having a picky eater. Regardless of diet selection, always make diet changes gradually by mixing the old and new foods together over five to seven days and make sure to carefully measure the appropriate portions of your cat’s food. Abrupt changes have a greater likelihood of resulting in vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Hello and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Although it won't cause any major health concerns right away it is best to avoid letting Sparkles eat kitten food. Kitten food tends to be higher in fats and calories so it can cause an adult cat to gain weight quickly. In general canned cat food is considered much healthier for cats so perhaps you can entice Sparkles away from the kitten food by offering him canned food instead. When is a good time to transition cats from kitten food to adult food?
Kitten food is specially formulated for kittens to achieve proper growth and development, and as such, is higher in calories than adult cat foods. Kittens should be fed kitten foods until they reach about 90% of their adult size, which typically occurs around 10-12 months of age. Any time a diet change is made, it should be done so gradually to minimize the risk of developing an upset stomach with vomiting and/or diarrhea. Transition the kitten food and adult food by mixing the foods together over 5-7 days, beginning with 75% old food and 25% new food for a day or two, then 50% old food and 50% new food, and then 25% old food with 75% new food.

So I agree that adult food should be fed to adult cats and kitten food should be fed to kittens. Kittens need more calcium and phosphorus to help them grow properly. They need more calories because they are usually more active than adult cats. Adults that eat kitten food for a long period will usually gain too much weight. If they become obese this can cause secondary problems like obesity and diabetes. Kittens who eat adult food occasionally will have growth abnormalities or poor weight gain. I hope this helps!
