How do I properly feed and set up a home for my pet land snail?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Male

This is Larry. I got it and another pet snail today. I have searched on Internet about the care of a land snail and I haven't found out much information. Could anybody please tell me a few things? For example, what and how often should I feed my little land snails, should I remove the food after some time pass ? Do I have to change the soil of their habitat and how often? Is there anything you recommend I should add? Things you consider I should be aware of. Anyway, thank you for your time! :)

You can feed them fresh greens and vegetables. Avoid citrus fruits. Place the food in a small bowl and replace it every couple days to prevent drawing pests. Add a cuttlebone as well as a calcium supplement. You can find one in the Bird section of the local pet store. Cleaned, dried egg shells can also be used. The substrate should be pesticide and fertilizer free. Soil from your yard is not recommended since it may harbor parasites. You can find an appropriate substrate in the reptile/amphibian section of the pet store. Use enough to make it 7-10cm deep. provide hides for your snails to shelter in and keep the enclosure moist but not drenched. Remove snail droppings weekly and change the substrate monthly.
