My cat had leg surgery; why isn't she eating and how's recovery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 8.8 lbs

My cat broke her right back leg month ago, was operated & plate was inserted. 10 days later her leg twisting to the right. I took her back to the vet, he said she needs a new surgery. Surgery done yesterday. Back home the same day because the vet said she is fierce & better she stays in a familiar environment. She's on antibiotic (Amoicillin/clavulanicc acid 457mg/5ml) dose is 1ml twice a day. she isn't eating well, but taking medication. Just to know if surgery went good and about recovery tx

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. From what I can tell from the x-rays the surgery looks successful. It appears they started with an intramedullary pin and then went to using a plate which is more stable. The antibiotic she is on can cause some inappetence so I suggest you try feeding her some other foods to entice her like canned tuna, boiled chicken, etc. and ALWAYS give the antibiotic after she has eaten at least a few bites of food. If her appetite does not improve then speak to the vet about maybe switching antibiotics. I am not exactly sure what else you want to know. If you have more questions please post again and be as specific as possible. I am not sure what you mean by "recovery tx". Hope this helps. Best wishes.
