My rabbit has a greasy spot on his back. Is it an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | neutered | 8 months and 19 days old | 3.5 lbs

My rabbit Baby has a greasy spot on the back of his coat. I’m wondering what might cause this? At first I tried brushing him less but that didn’t seem to make a difference.

It appears to be local infection or irritation. Keep the area clean and dry. Monitor Baby for excessive grooming in that area. If it doesn't resolve in a few days or if it worsens, have him examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating rabbits.
