My cat has an open wound. How do I clean it, and can I use Nolvasan?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 7.72 lbs

I took my cat to the vet today as she had a wound that the scab has fallen off of. It’s left an open wound and the vet said it is granular tissue which you can see. I have been given antibiotics for her and she never mentioned whether to clean the wound or not. The previous vet gave me nolvasan to clean it originally before the scab came off and I wasn’t sure whether to use that on it.

You should clean the wound with warm, bolied salty water twice a day. Alternatively, you can use an antiseptic preparation containing chloxedidine (Nolvosna is one of them) and also use it twice a day.
