Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 6 months old | 93 lbs
I found a small lump on my 4 year old lab/pit mix when I was searching for ticks. It was on his inner thigh and after a fine needle aspiration the vet told me it was a Mast cell Tumor. He’s been ok Prednisone and Benadryl for a week and it’s completely disappeared. What does this mean? Is this a good sign? Could she have misdiagnosed? He’s going back in a couple days for blood work before it gets surgically removed. I’m not sure how they’ll know where it is now!

I’m sorry Gunner is dealing with this! Mast cell tumors are unfortunately a very common tumor we see. Mast cells are a type of inflammatory cell so we expect tumors to shrink considerably when dogs are on prednisone and Benadryl. I would use a sharpie to mark where the tumor is/was to keep track of it. Surgical excision is the most important part of the treatment plan. And with a successful surgery many dogs do great. Once the tissue is removed your vet will have a lot more information to give you about Gunner s specific mast cell tumor. I hope gunner does very well!
