What are these white rice-like worms on my cat's tail and bed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 years and 4 months old

my cat has just recovered from a burst abscess just under her tail to the side of her bum. I woke up one morning to little white maggot looking creatures crawling on my bed, but this was after the wound was fully healed. i gave her antibiotics twice a day for a week or two and she got some shots at the vet for her burst abscess. about a week after giving the antibiotics thats when i found them on my bed and i assumed that it was from a dead animal, but yesterday i found one on her tail?

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! If you are finding white rice sized segments around Katniss's tail then I suspect you are seeing tape worm segments. Cats get tape worm from fleas and from hunting. You can always post a picture to confirm. I would deworm her with a product that gets tapeworm. Below is a link of a good dewormer or contact your Vet in the morning. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=3464 I wish Katniss the best!
