Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 12 years and 1 month old | 20 lbs
My dog has pulmonary hypertension and Cushings. She takes Sildenafil and Vetoryl. She was given terbutaline for when she has attacks, but we never used it because theophylline and albuterol made her worse. The dosage given was 10 mgs every 12 hrs which seems high to me. When I called my vet, he said it is correct. Can I start her on one 5 mg tab and can it be crushed like other meds she takes?

I know how difficult it can be to manage multiple chronic health problems in our older dogs. I presume that you are worried about side effects with the Terbutaline and that is the reason for wanting to try a lower dose. I am attaching more information about Terbutaline below. https://www.vin.com/veterinarypartner/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=5138465 While I can't give you dosing information, I have had owners start with doses of Terbutaline lower than the recommended dosage. However, you need to know that if it doesn't work, you will need to try the higher dosage before we will know if that drug will work for Lola or not. Terbutaline is not like an antibiotic where we worry about low dosages causing resistance, so it certainly might be an option to start with a lower dose, but be sure to check with your veterinarian first. And yes, Terbutaline tablets can be crushed. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.
