Pet's info: Dog | Fox Terrier | Male | neutered | 12 years and 10 months old | 20 lbs
My dog has been diagnosed in the early stages of kidney failure and is on a supplement, Aventi, to help his kidneys, which seems to be working quite well. He also has urinary incontinence and is taking Stillbestrol one pill every 5 days. Wondering if it is ok to continue with the Stilbestrol along with the supplement? Just wondering if one will affect the other in any way? Also, is there anything else you can recommend to help with his kidney's besides the supplement? Thanks.

I am sorry to hear that you and waffles are dealing with kidney disease. But it sounds like you are on top of it and are being very proactive, which is great! It is ok to use diethylstilbestrol (i.e. DES or stilbestrol) with the Aventi supplement. These 2 should not cause problems when given together. I am not sure what stage waffle’s kidney disease is at, and I am not sure the nature of his urinary incontinence. But, I just wanted to mention that since kidney disease causes dogs to drink more and subsequently urinate a larger volume more frequently, his incontinece could potentially improve as his kidney disease is managed, making him less reliant on the DES down the line. There are Many things we use to help manage kidney disease depending on the stage of disease, the blood work values, the signs the dog is showing etc. Special veterinary diets such as Hills k/d diet or royal canin renal support diet can be very helpful as part of the management. I would ask waffle’s veterinarian if a specialized diet would make sense for him. If waffle begins showing any signs such as poor appetite or vomiting there are medications his vet can prescribe that will help a lot as well. Good luck with everything! And let us know if we can help further.
