Why did my dog attack me when I acted like a dog? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 10 years and 4 months old

I was playing and pretending to be a dog and act like my dog then he got really aggressive and tried to attack. I will NEVER pretend to be a dog again but why did he do that? I am scared of him now. How do I get over my fear and how do I get my dog to be happy with me again?

For some dogs, a person on all fours is no longer a human in authority but is viewed as a possible threat/canine intruder etc and this sort of play is not recommended. It is possible his vision may be decreasing which may have added to the confusion? Some basic sit/stay/wait commands can help to reinforce the normal 'pack' order and remind Buddy that he should follow your direction
