My dog is very sick and suffering. Is it time to put him to sleep?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 6 years and 1 month old | 80 lbs

My dog dozer has had 2 strokes and has had an infection in his teeth which is now causing him to not eat, poop pure bright red blood, and he has been very lethargic and has eye discharge. Is it recommended that I put him to sleep since his quality of life will not be 100% even with treatment

Yes, I would agree that euthanasia is a very valid option is this situation as a full general anaesthetic and multiple extractions of infected teeth in an already unwell dog is likely to make him feel worse and may even create a situation of sepsis further reducing his prognosis
