Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Female | spayed | 65 lbs

Molly has a spinal injury and she scoots a lot on her bum. She’s also completely incontinent. She has a large open sore on her tail.. I’ve been using veterycin and then ointment and loosely wrapping...looking for advice on wound condition and if infected? Thx!

Poor Molly. It looks like it may be infection and swollen. I would try using a e-collar to prevent her from licking it. Leaving it to open air may help it heal better than leaving it wrapped. If she is urinating or defecating on it, this could be making it worse and wrapping may be a better option as long as the wrap is staying dry and clean. Since she is a special case, I would have your vet take a look at it as soon as you can so they can start her on antibiotics and any other meds to help it heal quickly. If the wound gets worse especially in her state, it could make it much more difficult to heal in the future. I hope this helps!
