While dogs can be given pepto for specific conditions, it should only be done under strict veterinary supervision. Unfortunately it's illegal for me to recommend using it on Zoe without seeing her in person first. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for your dog. I would not give it to her without speaking to her vet first to make sure it's safe for her and appropriate to use for her current symptoms. Best of luck.

If the diarrhea doesn’t improve within a few days or if any other symptoms emerge then I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian. My moms 6 month old puppy have diarrhea and had it for a couple days now. Shes been de-wormed last month. We fed her pure pumpkin and rice and baby food and nothing seems to help. Could we give her pepto bismol? If so how much? If that won't help she
Unfortunately it's illegal from us to recommend using an OTC medication such as pepto bismol without seeing Penelope in person. I strongly recommend having her seen by a vet today if possible. It's never a good idea to use an OTC human medication on a puppy unless specifically prescribed by a vet. Her vet can let you know if this is safe or not, and can treat her diarrhea. Best of luck.

Unfortunately, by law it is illegal for the experts at Boop by Petco to give the dose information for any drug, including OTC drugs, without seeing the animal in person first. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for your dog. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

If your puppy is in pain, I would have him seen by a vet right away so he can be examined for the source of the pain, and the vet can treat it him for it.

My Maltipoo has pooped a small amount of red blood mucous twice this morning. She has an upset stomach. I've called vet & appt Monday. Can I give her Pepto? If so how much for 9 lbs. Also will they poop like that with an upset stomach? Thank you
I'm sorry to hear that Ziggy is not feeling well! However, no, I do not recommend giving Pepto Bismol to dogs. This medication contains salicylates (similar to aspirin), which can cause gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding issues. Instead, try withholding food for the next 12 hours, then offer Ziggy a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice (1 cup per 10 pounds of body weight, divided into smaller meals). After several days on the bland diet, you can begin to mix her regular food back in with the bland diet over 5-7 days. If Ziggy becomes lethargic, refuses to eat, vomits or has profuse bloody diarrhea, she will need to go to an emergency vet this weekend rather than waiting until Monday. I hope that she feels better soon!

Can pets have pepto Bismol? Amount per pound?
Yes, dogs can have it. To treat acute diarrhea, 0.5 mL/lb (1 US teaspoon for every 10 pounds your dog weighs) can be given every 4 to 6 hours for 5 days. The dosage can be higher depending on how severe the symptoms are and other contributing factors, with a maximum recommended dose of 0.9 mL/lb to be given every 6 to 8 hours. Shake the bottle well before use.

Is Pepto Bismol safe to give to my 5 month old puppies if they have diarrhea?
Hi and thank you for using Boop by Petco. If your puppies are having mild diarrhea that has not lasted over 6 hours, eating fine and acting normally with no vomiting, then it can be safe. However, it is just a band aid and does not fix the underlying problem as to WHY they are having diarrhea. If the diarrhea has persisted longer than a few hours, the puppies are not eating, they are vomiting or lethargic, I would not give Pepto Bismol. I would not recommend Pepto bishop for diarrhea, as the ingredients are often not well tolerated in dogs. You can feed some canned pumpkin or boiled chicken and rice to see if that helps but if it's not improving she may need to see your vet for treatment.

I do not recommend giving Benji Pepto Bismol, as it can lead to toxicity. See the following link for more information https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/uncategorized/so-what-about-those-hidden-potential-toxins/ IF the diarrhea doesn't resolve soon, or if he develops other signs such as nausea, decreased appetite or decreased energy, have Benji seen by a vet. Take a fecal sample from him in with you in case the vet wants to run tests on it.
