My German Shepherd has something in his eye corner. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 70 lbs

There is something that continues to appear in the corner of my dogs eye. I always clean his eye boogies out daily, because I think it’s pretty gross, and a few days ago I noticed this in the corner of his eye. I haven’t touched it because I’m concerned I could cause pain to it. He’s a German shepherd dog, just turned a year in March.

Hello, From what I can see in the picture, I do see the third eyelid protruding in the left eye. The third eyelid functions to cover and lubricate the cornea. If Bishop has chronic ocular discharge, I would advise you to have him evaluated by a veterinary ophthalmologist. German Shepherd Dogs are prone to an autoimmune disease of the eyes known as pannus.
