My dog licked his penis, his breath smells bad. Is it an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Wirehaired Pointing Griffon | Male | neutered | 70 lbs

My dog went to the dog park and some other poodle kept licking his penis. The poodle was male, not fixed. My dog is fixed. Later in the car after we left my dog licked his penis, and then his breath smelled foul. His breath didn't have a smell to it earlier. Does he has an infection in his penis? Or something else? He also never eats food until very late in the evening.

This is likely a coincidence than anything. He could have eaten something at the park to make his breath smell back. It is unlikely from her prepuce/penis. If he produced some smegma which can sometimes smell bad. Even neutered dogs can produce this occasionally. I would try to brush his mouth or add a water additive to try to freshen his breath. If the smell continues or if he continues to lick his prepuce/penis a lot I would have your vet check both out to ensure they look okay. I hope this helps!
