My cat sneezed while taking liquid medicine. Did she aspirate it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi. There is this multivitamin syrup that Noushi should take. I pour it down her throat with teaspoon. But today she made a sound like sneezing & I think it jumped in her throat. Is it going to cause her trouble or like humans is it going to enter her lungs & cause trouble ? Thank you very much

It is possible she may have aspirated a small amount into her lungs. Monitor for continued coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge or lethargy. If enough was aspirated, the potential for pneumonia exists. A small syringe should be used instead of a spoon. You can slowly squirt the syrup in the side of her mouth and allow time for swallowing to prevent aspiration.
