My cat is hiding and throwing up. Is it stress or something serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 years and 1 month old | 10 lbs

My cat started hiding under the bed and I can’t get her to come out. Last night she came out drank and ate some food while laying down and she threw up the food. I can’t afford to get her to the vet right now. My boyfriend came over Tuesday and when he comes over she hides. So I’m wondering if that could be why she’s hiding? She is a inside and outside cat also. Last year around this time this same thing happened and her blood count was low and I didn’t know if it’s happening again.

Stress and anxiety can caus them to hide and be scared. She may not be comfortable with your boyfriend. However they also hide when they don’t feel well, which would be my concern since she vomited. She does need to see a vet to see which is the problem but you can help by controlling her environment and limiting stress so she feels safe enough to come out more
