How to soothe my cat's itchy bald spot from flea dermatitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 12 years and 7 months old | 12 lbs

My 12 year old Cat Junior has had this bald spot since he got fleas a few years ago and had a serious reaction because of his flea dermatitis. I tried seresto and he reacted poorly to that as well and it inflamed his bald spot. I shaved the area to reach all the irritation and was applying NaturVet but it seemed to make it worse. What can i use that will help my baby not be so itchy right there? He’s very sensitive to the sound of a sprayer so foam or liquid would be best if possible. THANK YOU!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would just try over the counter 1% hydrocortisone cream. It will help tremendously with itching and pain. Unfortunately, shaving (which is actually a great idea) does cause itching sometimes as the hair regrows. If that’s not helping, talk with your vet about other prescription options. Best of luck to you and Junior!
