My puppy ate a bone, now has bloody poop. Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 6 days old

My 10 month old puppy had a femur bone from the pet store last night and he didn't poop today until I took him out when I got home 24 hours after the bone....he had a couple of drops in his poop and his appetite is great and hes drinking water fine. He is also as active as ever, no change in anything except the couple drops of blood. Should I be concerned, it's my first puppy. Oh and he has had all deworming stuff done as s young pup so I dont think it's that Thank you!!

Cooper may have some mild gastrointestinal upset due to the bone. As long as he is behaving normally otherwise, you can monitor him at home. Consider fasting him for 12-24 hours then feed a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to his regular diet afterwards. Symptoms to watch for include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. Any of these symptoms would warrant an exam with your veterinarian.
