My dog has a pea-sized bump near her anus. Is it an anal gland?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 5 years and 9 months old | 76 lbs

Noticed a pea sized bump at the top (12 o'clock position) of my dog's anus. Doesn't seem to bother her and her bowl movements are normal. The coloring is the same as the rest of the area and it doesn't seem to be bleeding or discharging anything. Any idea what this could be? Seems to have just developed in the last day or so.

It looks like a swollen / impacted anal gland. Sometimes this is an early stage of anal gland infection. It would be worth to get Juliette checked over by a vet or vet technician - they will do rectal exam to diagnose what the problem is.
