Hello. Scratching to this degree could still be the result of some sensitivity, to fleas, pollens or other environmental stimulants. Very few cats will scratch because of a food sensitivity. Most of these cats will vomit or have diarrhea. It is possible that fleas may be the cause, so even though you may not see any fleas on her, you should use a good flea product on a regular basis, even if Maarten is strictly indoors. You might want to have your veterinarian examine her to rule out a parasitic issue, infection, the presence of ear mites, & possibly try a short course of steroids to see if this allows the lesions to heal. Then you can work on the possible underlying cause of her sensitivities. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Lina regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.
