Does neutering a male dog increase aggression? What do vets say?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chow Chow | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 44 lbs

Its so confusing for me to hear time after time that poeple regret having their dogs neutered mostly male ones, cause they believe they’ve turned aggressive or MORE aggressive after being fixed. This is compeletly in contrast with what the vets and seraches on google claim. As they say castration will lessen the aggression, how this among real poeple around me is taking place?? Im totally in delimma with whether to have him neutered or not. Will u tell me about it

What you are hearing from people is anecdotal evidence, there is no proof behind their claims that neutering their dog has made them more aggressive. You also don't know if they train their animal at all, or if they treat them well. I would trust the word of vets who say the opposite, they are the experts on subjects regarding veterinary medicine. I do recommend neutering for not only the behavioral benefits, but also for the health benefits. Listen to the experts (i.e. the vets).
