Dog losing weight, blood test: cells won't separate. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 9 years and 11 months old | 48 lbs

My dog has been losing weight but still eats good. I took her to get blood work and her red blood cells would not separate from the serum during the spinning process.what could this mean?

I suspected the blood sample was hemolized (so the red cells were damaged during taking a blood sample) and, as a result, it was not possible to clearly separate serum from the red cells. If this was the case, it is necessary to take another blood sample and spin it down again. I am not aware of any disease that would prevent blood separation during centrifugation.
