My dog has gastritis, in pain, sitting up, panting. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cocker spaniel who was just diagnosed with gastritis is now acting in pain, she is sitting straight up and pants for bit at a time. She will not lay down nor really walk around. She has been eating and drinking all day. What could be wrong?

She could have abdominal pain from the gastritis and/or she could also have pancreatitis causing pain. You should call your vet and give him/her an update and tell your vet that she seems to be in pain. Your vet may be able to prescribe medications to help relieve the pain or your vet may want to recheck and run some diagnostic tests.
