Can I give my cat ibuprofen for pain after his dew claw surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 4 months old

My cat has had his dew claw removed by a Vet. He's been prescribed Ibuprofen for a painkiller. Is it okay for me to give him that? And how much in quantity?

Ibuprofen is toxic to cats and should NOT be used at all. Another anti-inflammatory medication as Meloxicam should be ideally used. Antibiotics may be added as well. I would strongly recommend to discuss this treatment with your vet again. Ibuprofen can be extremely toxic to cats, so I'm surprised your vet would prescribe that for Willow. I'm also surprised that if your vet prescribed a medication for him, they didn't give you the dose instructions. I would not give it to him at all. There are other, safer pain medications for cats that your vet can prescribe.
