My kitten's belly is bald and her fur is falling out. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 1 day old | 0.5 lbs

I dont know if it's that her skin is so dry, a side effect of the clindamycin injections she is on for her URI, irritation from the kitten formula. All I know is that her hair is falling out. Her underside is completely bald now but her top is fine. She had crusty things in her fur so I tried to softly brush them out and clumps of hair fell off. I stopped brushing but it's all fallen out now. Why? Is there anything I can put on it? Shelter vet glanced and said it's fine but she is really busy...

Based on the picture it appears that she may have had a lot of clumping debris on her fur? If her skin was irritated from debris encrusting the underside of her belly then it could cause enough irritation to cause hair loss. Also skin infection and ringworm are also possible causes. I would encourage you to monitor her closely for any other changes. If You feel the shelter vet if too busy then I would encourage you to consider having a second opinion. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
