Why does my 6-month-old spayed puppy rest so much? Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 7 months and 6 days old | 45.3 lbs

Hi, can you please let us know if a six-month old puppy who was just spayed on April 18 and had her stitches removed yesterday should be very energetic? We adopted her yesterday, she seems normal and amazing in every way, but she is resting much more than I thought a puppy would. When she plays, she plays hard and is very energetic and quick. I'm just wondering why she rests so much. Thanks!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That would be considered somewhat normal and expected for a puppy. They do have really high energy at times like you describe and then sleep and rest a lot. That is considered normal for a puppy. Good luck and have a great day!
