Is a vegetarian diet safe for my dog with Addison's disease?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Should a dog with Addison's disease be on a vegetarian diet? - have a customer at my pet store who wants me to bring in a vegetarian food for her 2 dogs (1 with addison"s). I hesitated because of my own personal opinion about not forcing an animal to follow your vegan life-style, but I am also concerned about the dogs health. Is it safe?

It is safe as long as it is a complete balanced diet. An addisonian dog doesn't HAVE to be on a vegetarian diet in my experience. I allow my addisonian patient be on whatever diets they are most comfortable with and are willing to eat. If she is saying it is required and you need more proof in order to special order a diet, you could ask her to bring in a note from the doctor as I cannot speak for all vets. Her personal vet may have different requests or requirements for her dog specifically. I hope this helps!
