My husky reacts to Lepto. Does he still need Bordetella and Lepto?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Do I need to renew his bordertella and Lepo? As the lepo vaccine my husky handbook say many huskies have adverse reactions till it goes out of his system as he had low appetite and now that it’s out of date he eats SO much better. He is 3. Goes to dog parks 1-2 week, camping once a year(on trails and don’t let him sniff or drink water off creeks)Never boarded. Does he need them as non core? Will get if boarded as some say only last six months. Is this fine for his risk factors?

The bordetella is strongly encouraged if he is around a lot of other dogs so I would recommend it at least once a year since he goes to dog parks frequently. The lepto is strictly your choice. If you feel like the poor reaction he has when he receives the vaccine outweighs the benefit of protection then I wouldn't give it. It also depends on how frequently lepto is diagnosed in your area as to how high risk he is. I would talk to your vet about this and during that discussion you should be able to decide what would be best for him. I hope this helps!
