My leopard gecko is having trouble laying an egg. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My leopard gecko laid one egg a few days ago. Today the other old egg is trying to be expelled. She has had success with most of it but she still seems to be trying to expel more. How can we help her out. She has new crickets and worms, fresh warm padding in her moist house and fresh water. She has laid several sets of eggs over the past 5 years this our first encounter with this.

Try soaking her in a warm 50/50 solution of water and unflavored PediaLyte. This may aid in egg laying as well as provide hydration. A gentle abdominal massage may help expel the egg. If this doesn't help, she should be examined by your veterinarian or an experienced herp vet sooner rather than later.
