How long for piroxicam to ease dog's frequent urination from cancer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | neutered | 14 years and 6 months old | 15 lbs

Prince was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He was put on piroxicam starting yesterday. He has had 2 doses. How long for him to get relief and not have to urinate every 15 minutes and no stop straining to urinate and have a bowel movement?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Prince! I would expect some improvement, if it is going to work, in 3-7 days. I would continue with the prescribed dosing and contact your Vet at day 5 if there is no improvement. Maybe they can add additional pain relief. I wish Prince the best!
