My dog got Hartz. When can I give Nexgard or Bravecto safely?

How soon could I give my dogs Nexgard or Bravecto after a topical flea treatment? I used Hartz topical on my dogs about 1 1/2 weeks ago that failed to do anything.

Hartz is a pretty poor flea treatment product, so I'm not surprised it failed. I'd wait at least two weeks after you applied the Hartz, and then it's safe to give Charlie the Nexgard or Bravecto. I hope this helps!

My brother put Hartz topical flea treatment on my dog when I was out of town. I have an Rx for Nexgard, his fleas are horrible and he has a flea allergy. It's been 1 week and a half since the Hartz was applied. It is not doing anything for the flesh.
You can give him the Nexgard now. There is more you can do: fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly (Nexguard is great) 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas.

Hartz does not make a topical that is in the same class of drugs as Nexgard so it should be safe to go ahead and give the Nexgard. If there is a major flea infestation you may need to treat the environment (house) as well - Advantage spray, Knockout spray or Fleabusters are what I typically recommend although your best bet is to use an exterminator. Nexgard kills fleas quickly so if you treat all pets in the home for three months it should take care of the environment.

I gave both of my dogs dog md topical flea preventive 4 days ago and it did not help with the fleas. Can I safely give them nexguard or should I wait?
It is better if you wait at least two weeks in between medications. Most of the tick and flea products manufacturers do not recommend using more than one preparation at the same time. It is hard to predict what side effects could develop if two similar products are used at the same time. If you want to call Nexguard's 800 number (should be on the box) and tell them what product you already applied they may tell you it's OK. Don't forget to treat the house and/or yard for fleas. This will help tremendously. I suggest Knockout Spray ES for the house and Advantage II yard spray. You can buy these online without a prescription. Also, don't forget to treat every pet in the household for fleas too!

My foster dog got nexgard 48 hours ago and I gave her a flea/tick bath yesterday! I found 2 ticks on her still alive can I use the liquid medication hartz has that you apply to the back? I don’t want to overdose this little girl. She is only 18 lbs
No, I would not use Hartz on her. you have to give the Nexgard time to work. I would say check her reguarly, you may find dying ticks on her that are still alive but in the process of dying. I do not recommend adding more anti-tick or anti-flea medication.

I gave my 6month old dog Hart’z topical flea medicine 9 days ago. It doesn’t seem to work. Would it be alright to give her credelio tablet
Hartz is a very poor product, so I'm not surprised it didn't work for Kalee. I would wait at least two weeks after you applied the Hartz before giving her the credelio, as it's not good to combine flea medications. Remember as well that fleas live in the environment, they only jump on the dog to feed, so you have to disinfect your home as well. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Can you give an 11years old dog Bravetco, after having been on NexGard for a few months, but waiting a few days beyond the last treatment?
Yes, you can give Vicky Bravecto after having been on Nexguard for a few months. Bravecto and Nexguard are in the same class of medication, so just continue as you would with Nexguard for the first dose of Bravecto. I would wait at least two weeks after giving Nexguard before giving Bravecto.

Hello, sorry to hear about Brody. Bravecto has not been associated with any drug interactions, including any other topical flea medications. I would wait at least 2 weeks after your applied the Hearts medication before giving him the Bravecto. In addition to the extra flea preventative, you should also consider treating your environment for fleas. This includes washing bedding, vacuuming, and washing any clothing Brody may have direct contact with. This will hopefully reduce the flea burden in your environment to help you get control of the fleas. Only about 5% of the flea problem is what we see on our pets, the rest of the problem lies in our environment as eggs and immature life stages of fleas. When vacuuming, remember to not reuse the same vacuum bag. When spraying your environment with insecticide, remember to use products that are safe for pets and even then, if possible, remove them from the environment for 1-2 hours. Can Nexgard be used in addition to flea shampoo? (Dog has never had be4, was using Frontline. Found fleas and had pro shampooed; still fleas on him.)
If you wait 3-5 days after using flea shampoo, you can probably use NexGard safely. I have always had success in treating fleas using Frontline Plus. Frontline is very effective when used properly. Use the appropriate dose based on your pet's weight. Do not split doses between pets. It must be applied at least 3 days before or after a bath or grooming. It must be applied directly to the skin. This is accomplished by parting the fur with the applicator tip down to the skin. Treat ALL pets in the house for at least 3 consecutive months. The environment must also be treated. Vacuum all areas and dispose of the bag outdoors. Wash all fabrics and beddings that have had contact with any pet in the hottest water temp allowable. Knockout Area treatment (by Virbac) is just one very effective product. Lastly, treat all pets for tapeworm since fleas carry the risk of tapeworm infection. I used Advantix on my dog last month and again last weekend. It is not working. Is it safe to give him Nexguard so soon after the last Advantix application? (5 days ago)
I’m sorry it’s not working! I would give Bruzer Capstar. It’s a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes, and it’s safe to give now. Give it once a day until it’s been a week since you applied the Advantix, and then give him the Nexgard. Also be sure to disinfect your home, as fleas live in the environment, not on the dog. Wash his bedding in hot and soapy water, and vacuum all the carpets and furniture. Use a spray like Indorex or a flea bomb to kill all the fleas in the house. I hope this helps!

hello, I am looking to get flea treatment for my dog, we usually use comfortis. We just moved here and cant find it, so we are considering enxguard
Nexgard is an excellent product that provide tick protection in addition to flea prevention. Bravecto is a similar product, but it provides coverage against fleas and ticks for 3 months. All of these medications require a prescription. I would recommend discussing them with your vet to determine the best fit for Charlie.
