My cat's sad after chinchilla died. Why the behavior change?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Scottish Fold | Female | spayed | 10 months and 19 days old

I lost my chinchilla two weeks ago, and it was a good friend with my cat, after his death my cat behaviors changed, especially when I start removing my chinchilla stuff like cage, food. she keep meowing if she didn't see me around, and start following me everywhere, she's less active and became really quite. is my cat sad for losing her friend? do I have to worry about her behavior?

It does sound like your kitty is missing her friend. You need to give her a lot of TLC. Maybe you can get another chinchilla for her to make friends with. I think over time she will forget but that can take a few months.
