Hello, my question is...what can happen if a you administer heart worm medication to a dog that may already have attracted the infection and you were unaware of this? Also, are there any symptoms that I might look out for just in case? Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated! Thank you and have a wonderful day...Jami

heartworm medication is given to already heartworm positive dogs. however, it is usually done under hospitalization at the vet to monitor for a reaction. Reactions are not common, but generally occur within 4-6 hours of administration. You will need to watch for reactions such as coughing, respiratory distress, collapse or weakness.
