My Shih Tzu is peeing blood. Is this an emergency vet situation?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 5 years and 1 month old | 15 lbs

My 5 year old shihtzu is peeing blood, should i take her to an emergency vet?

IF she is painful and restless and straining to go, then I would. If she is resting and able to urinate then it is not a true emergency but may be uncomfortable for her. As long as she is urinating, then you can try to wait for your regular vet and monitor her for any changes

    Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Blood in urine is usually related to urinary tract infection. Please, take Zoey to your local vets as most likely she will need a course of antibiotics to get better. As Shih Tzu breed is prone to get bladder stones ( the tendency can be seen in Shih Tzu mix too) you vet may want to examine to the urine or scan the bladder to check for stones.
