My cat is shaking after moving. Is it stress or something serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 4 years and 10 months old | 10 lbs

Hi, I'm so worried because of my cat. She is 4 years old and we just moved yesterday from Scotland to Birmingham. Was a long journey 8 hours. She was surprisingly calm during travel and yesterday also. But today she started to shake. Is that because she has been moved from her place? Please tell me it's not something serious.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds as though it has been a long trip and move for everyone! Shaking is a non-specific sign that can mean a lot of things. It totally can mean that Miley is scared and not sure where she is or what happened. This is the most likely and sensible option. I would confine her to a room with food/water and a litter box. Get things settled and visit with her often. Let her get used to that room. It may take 1-2 days for her to start eating. If she is eating and eliminating normally I do not think she is sick. If she won't eat by day 3, starts vomiting or showing other symptoms have her examined. After a week, if she looks calm and happy open the door and let her explore your new place at her convenience. She has the room as a comfort place. I wish you the best!
