Found a tick in my bed. Should I worry about an infestation or eggs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 23 days old | 11 lbs

A couple of days ago my dog was sleeping in my bed. She jumped off and I found a tick near her on my bed. I disposed the tick, checked all over my dog for ticks and found nothing. Next morning I took her to the vet and they applied anti-tick and flea medictaion. also they checked for ticks but haven’t found anything. I’m still paranoid about finding ticks in my bed although did thorough cleaning and vacuming. I also sprayed pesticide, will that be enough to kill any ticks or eggs?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You will not have tick eggs in your house. They have to feed off blood to produce eggs, so I wouldn't worry about that or an infestation. It sounds as though you have done a good job. I would just add that you should consider a long lasting tick preventative. Dips and sprays do not last long on the dog. I would consider one of the new oral medications: either Nexgard or Simparica which are monthly or Bravecto which is one pill every 3 months. i wish you and Lilly the best!
