Why is my cat's heart rate low when she's resting or sleeping?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Tonkinese | Female | spayed | 5 years and 3 months old

When my cat is falling asleep or laying down her heart rate beats about 100-112 per min ( I check it around three times), I read online that a cat normal heart rate is around 140-220 beats per min. She is around 10 lbs, healthy 5 year old, and there isn’t a change in behavior of such.

The heart rate can change quite a bit depending on the cat's activity and it's normal for their heart rate to be lower when they are sleeping. A heart rate of 110 is fine for a sleeping cat and a low heart rate is rarely a concern unless there are signs of a decrease in activity or other signs of a problem like fainting. Otherwise, I would not worry about this and it would be good to note this as normal for future reference. I hope that helps and all is well with Kitty.
