My cat is limping and has shoulder pain. What vet treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 10 lbs

My cat Salem is an indoor cat, and last night he got outside. When I found him this afternoon he had a limp in his walk, he let me touch his paw and leg without any hesitation and he doesn’t seem to have any pain there, but his shoulder is sore and he won’t let me touch the area. Our birdcage was tipped over this morning and I think he may have knocked it down on himself by accident. What side of relief will the vet offer? Will it be medication or a splint? The pain is near my fingertip in pic

After a physical exam, your veterinarian may recommend x-rays to rule out or diagnose any fractures. A medication such as Metacam (meloxicam), which is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory, may be dispensed for pain management along with some exercise restriction.
