Why is my dog's face swelling recurring and spreading to his leg?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 9 years and 10 months old | 95 lbs

About two weeks ago, my dog had some pretty bad swelling on his face. He didnt seem uncomfortable but we took him to the vet just in case. The vet gave him a steroid shot and sent us on our way, stating that it was probably a reaction to an insect bite or allergy. The swelling is still coming and going every day and now its spread to his right leg / foot. He doesnt seem uncomfortable but this isnt normal and im worried.

Aww, poor Huck. Most of the time we worry about insect bites or stings to the face when the face is swollen like that. It doesn't usually move to one leg though. I am a little concerned by that and would probably recommend some xrays of that leg to make sure the bones all look normal. The swelling should be completely gone by now so I think Huck should be seen by your vet again. Hope he gets to feeling better!
