Why is my 7-month-old cat suddenly inactive and not drinking water?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 2 days old

My cat is 7 months and now he’s usually active and social. This week not so much. He’s not engaging with his toys as much either . He also doesn’t like to drink water. I’m a little worried.

Since you cat’s behavior has changed so abruptly I would recommend taking him in to the vet to be checked out. He may have an underlying infection or virus causing his symptoms or may have intestinal parasites, which isnfaily common in young kittens. I would also recommend keeping him inside (if not already) so you can keep a closer eye on him. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck with your little cutie!
