Hello, 2 of 6 newborn puppies 3wks old have diarrhea. Wondering if caused from worms (i have pic of poop)or possibly meds mother is on from mastitus? Puppies otherwise seem fine, hair is soft, starting to walk and play.

I am sorry to hear that the pups are having loose stools. The amoxicillin could potentially be a part of then problem. However, parasites such as coccidia often cause diarrhea in pups. I would highly encourage you to have a fecal analysis run on the puppies to rule out any parasite problems. Best of luck and I hope they improve soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Hi and thanks for your request. This is a very concerning presentation and a gastrointestinal infection is likely. 3 weeks old puppies usually have a liquid diet based on milk (from the mother or appropriate milk's replacement products for dogs). In this case, if possible at all, I would strongly recommend a veterinary check up as antibiotics and worming treatment may be required.
