My rat terrier is jealous of our new hamster. Is this normal behavior?

I have a rat terrier and got a hamster today.. is it going to ruin our relationship? she jumps in my lap when I am looking in the cage. And I noticed that when I was hugging my mother she started whining and jumping up and down... Soo confused and anxious right now. Pet's info: Dog | Rat Terrier | Female | spayed

It is unlikely. She is probably just as anxious and curious about the hamster as you are. She may feel a little displacement for the first few days, but generally they realize not much as changed to affect their attention and their lifestyle it will all pass
