Help! My Australian Shepherds have red runny stool. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 40 lbs

Both my Australian Shepherd dogs have red runny stool. One is almost two and the other is almost one year. They have no fleas. Are fed Heartland Farms twice a day. They do stay outside most of the day while I’m at work. I am currently trying to deworm them with a powder packet from Tractor Supply. Please let me know what’s going on

This may be from an infection if they contracted a bacteria or virus outside or from eating something new or different when out. If they are eating and drinking and playful, then you can change their diet to a bland one of chicken and rice and add a probiotic for dogs from the pet store to help. If they are vomiting or the stool become diarrhea with any blood, then they will need to be seen by your vet for further treatment.
