Why did my senior dog collapse, shake, and lose use of her back legs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 12 lbs

Tonight my yorkie, who is 16, collapsed and couldn’t move her back legs for a few minutes.she was shaking. I picked her up and she finally calmed down. She’s walking now but she obviously doesn’t feel well. At first, I thought it was the pesticide under my deck that was sprayed today. But it had been an hour or more and she did not ingest it. NAND I was told it was non toxic.

What you are describing sounds like it may be seizure. This can happen at any age from getting into something or having a change in their nervous system or brain. At her age, it is safest to have her checked by a vet to make sure there are metabolic reasons this was started. If it is a seizure then there is medicine they can start to help prevent further ones and control it
