My dog's eye looks slightly off, no other symptoms. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 52 lbs

My dog (3 years old, lab/boarder collie mix) has no other symptoms other than I've noticed the membrane by his eye a little different than normal. No discharge, redness, pawing at it it...just a tad off. Any suggestions? Otherwise, appetite, demeanor, energy, all the same. It's the right eye.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Rocco. His third eyelid on the right eye does appear to be a bit inflamed. Since it is not bothering him, it is ok to watch it and see if it resolves. Allergies are common this time of year. If he develops a discharge, begins squinting on that side or pawing at the eye, then he will need to see his veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
