My rescue lab mix chews furniture. How to stop destructive chewing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 58 lbs

I have a 1+ year old rescue dog (lab mix) that I adopted 2 months ago. I've had labs before and know they love to chew things. I got him to play with my other Lab/boxer 2 1/2 year old female while I am at work. They get along Great. Major problem is he CHEWS everything. My couch is basically just a wood frame now.and he's starting on the other one. I have lots of toys, squeeze balls, large rawhide bones I've tried 'Bitter Apple' to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks, Gary

It sounds to me like Justice needs to be confined to a crate or other puppy proof area whenever he is not directly supervised. It sounds like you’re already offering plenty of appropriate chew toys. If you catch him in the act you should offer something else to chew.
