My dog is drinking and peeing a lot, and his pee smells like cat pee.

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 8 years old

My boxer drinks alot of water presently and peed alot. We thought my cat was peeing on the couch but we have come to find out the dog is. It smells strong like cat pee. I assume it's some kind of infection? Or is this maybe something else? What should I get done at the vet to try to find out what's wrong. Thank you for ur help

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Sorry to hear that Brady is having this issue. I would start with an exam, blood testing and a urinalysis. That will rule in/out a lot of things. After having all of those results your vet can decide where to go from there. I can tell you though that it is fairly uncommon for a male dog to have a true urinary tract infection (just like in human men) so chances are something else is going on. What might be helpful to your vet is if you can quantify how much water he is actually drinking in a day (unrestricted). So, if you can do that before your appointment I think they would appreciate it. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
