My dog has an anal gland infection. How long until swelling improves?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | 6 years and 5 months old

My GS Dog was diagnosed with an anal glad infection. She is on antibiotics and has taken them for 3 days. I am using warm compresses as well 3-4x day. How long does it take to see improvement in the swelling of that area.

Hello, so sorry that Sydney is having this issue. It can take up to a week. If after that you are not seeing an improvement by then she will need to go back to the vet for a check-up. The vet may have to surgically drain the infection. Hope this helps. Best wishes and I hope she is feeling better soon!
